Hi all

I spent last Saturday (with 10 others) learning intensively from 2 guys who are the national experts in fighting incinerators. They represent UKWIN (UK Without Incinerators Network), and have successfully opposed planning applications in the Midlands, and they whizz round the UK giving advice to groups like Herts Without Waste, who hosted the event I attended. The vital statisitcs: about 1/2 of applications for incinerators are refused; incineration is about twice as expensive as re-cycling (and very inflexible for 25 years). Vital facts: 7 PFI schemes for incinerators have been scrapped by the new government. (I've already written to Mark Prisk to ask him if the Hertfordshire one might be in line for the chop). Coucillors are often told by contractors that the total amount of waste is increasing, when it is going down. So they need help from campaigners to resist the lying "experts".  Ray
