Hi all,
It was great to finally meet members from the group at the film night on 02/02/2012 to watch "End of the Line". Both the film and the group were so useful for me in light of the project I'm soon to commence at Sawbridgeworth, providing sustainably produced fish, vegetables and plants aimed at permaculture development.
The film left me feeling even more certain the project is important. It was also very useful to learn about the Marine Conservation Society and…

I wondered when there will be more events at TH? It would be nice to see members of TH that have never met each other before. There are so many members on here and it would be nice to meet a few new ones if not all of them.
On the subject of events has anyone seen this link at all. I found it on twitter.
The website's home page reads as follows:

I am setting out to weigh the produce I get from the polycultures of perennial veggies, starting yesterday:

Are you having similarly frost free weather in Hertford as we are in Shropshire? I am still waiting for frost to kill the top growth of oca and other perennial veggies before harvesting them!

Hi Justin and Huma, and welcome to TH.
I'm on the Steering Group, and I find your project exciting and
totally in line with Transition. My first thought on finance: do you

Hi,
My partner, Huma, and I are moving to Hunsdon and there is a 30 acre field which has just come up for sale there at around £6k per acre (plus vat).
We would love to create a large transition project with community allotments, a forest garden and other habitat creation but we can't afford to buy the whole field by ourselves.
If anyone is interested in investing in the project or has suggestions for further funding we would love to hear from…

Hello friends at Transition Hertford. My name is Anni and I actually live in Shropshire. I am engaged in a project to locate and grow as many perennial vegetables as I can find. This has grown out of being a frustrated would be forest gardener with an ordinary sized garden in a large town, although I am fortunate to live in a quiet part of said town. Without the room to grow many actual trees and loving veggies I have spent the last few years focussing on perennial veggies. I…

It looks like war has broken out in Cuffley over plans to build an anaerobic digestion plant.
"THE farmers behind controversial plans to build an anaerobic digestion plant in Cuffley have rubbished claims it will pose a risk to health and believe villagers are being misinformed.
Brothers Adrian and Howard Williams, of D Williams and Co, are seeking planning permission to build the eco-friendly plant and a compost facility at Cattlegate Farm."...…

Tues 19 July in the Guardian's "Comment and Debate" section. George points out in his inimitable ironic manner that our government claims to be reducing carbon emissions while sanctioning new programmes of gas and oil extraction (with tax breaks for BP). The sleight of hand is breath-taking: licences issued represent a "transitional investment" as we move to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels. "This is transitional in the sense that switching from 20 cigarettes a day to 40 is a step…

Hi
3 of us went to seen "Inside Job" on Monday. We came out rather dumbstruck. Why? Because it shows how big finance has corrupted government and academia in the US. Need to know how far the same things happen in London!
Here's my little review.
Highly recommended. We laughed sometimes - at the incredible denial responses of the top bankers, but overall very depressing and enraging. Main facts: the top financiers were all in it together: encouraging "predatory" loan…

Hi all
I spent last Saturday (with 10 others) learning intensively from 2 guys who are the national experts in fighting incinerators. They represent UKWIN (UK Without Incinerators Network), and have successfully opposed planning applications in the Midlands, and they whizz round the UK giving advice to groups like Herts Without Waste, who hosted the event I attended. The vital statisitcs: about 1/2 of applications for incinerators are refused; incineration is about twice as expensive…

Perhaps nothing to do with Transiton towns or being local but then again maybe it is. Maybe it's the kind of thing as a Transition initiative we are part of what it all about. I'll enligten you....Mistletoe?
Mistletoe is on the decline. I haven't been able to buy an mistletoe this year and I couldn't understand why. I hadn't realised it was becoming so rare. It is a parasite to trees but has an enormous ecological significance. So for the sake of Yule and being part of a…
