LATEST NEWS

October 2010.
As you know CoBRA (Community of Battery Recycling Alliance) has been working in partnership with Herts County Council to set up a voluntary collection scheme for used batteries in your community. Transition Hertford supports this initiative and thanks to Carolyn, Eric and Roy Frith (Washing Machine and Vacuum Cleaner Sales, Service and Repairs) at 13 Talbot Street are the first business in Hertford to offer space for a used battery collection box. Please feel free to drop your used batteries off when you pass their shop.

Happy New Year to all!! Right, lets get on with it!!Is there anybody out there who would like to find out more about the battery recycling scheme? It is so easy to do and takes so little time. If you would like to have a chat about it please get in touch.

This group is not just for batteries so if you know of any other schemes or maybe you'd be happy to be a collection point for stamps or foil or something else the Council doesnt do for us, please join this group and let us know or start a conversation on the Forum. Looking forward to hearing from you :)

Well I've taken the first consignment to Cole Green recycling centre (the dump as I've always known it by):) In total there was an estimated 25 kgs which breaks down to 3 kgs from The Frith Brothers shop in Talbot Street, 12 kgs from St Andrews Church and 10 kgs from Wallfields (E.H.D.C.) A good result I think and really so easy to do and not time consuming at all. Is there anyone else out there who is passionate about recycling waste and would like to join our recycling group? Just get in touch or register through the CoBRA site:)

I think I'm going to put all the batteries from 3 places- St Andrews Church, The Frith Bros, and Wallfields together as it makes it easier (only one set of paperwork) But the batteries from the Church was about half a box full (25kgs to a box) so I reckon its about 12 1/2 kgs which in such a short time is brilliant

Well done Jane / Carolyn. Be sure to let us know!

The box at St Andrew's was getting very heavy, so Carolyn is taking the contents with hers to be recycled. I can't wait to hear what weight we've saved from landfill already.....

I have signed up for this through the CoBRA website too.
I'm the registered volunteer to collect from St Andrew's Church. Anyone can put their used batteries in the box in the church porch.
I hope to get this on the church website and the St Andrew's Street website. It's not difficult or hard work.

And if you join up through this group we can keep a tally of what weight of batteries Transition Hertford have saved from landfill.

I have signed up for this through the CoBRA website, its very easy. I'm the registered volunteer to collect from EHDC at Wallfields and Roy and Eric Frith in their washing and vacuum cleaner repair shop in Talbot Street. The aim is to get collections going in loads of shops, schools, churches, anywhere. Please join in, its simple and not time consuming.
