Permalink Reply by Wenderlynn Jane Bagnall on November 6, 2010 at 21:08 Governments have been trying to hawk our forests and open spaces to business since the 1970's, so far we've usually, but unfortunately not always, stopped them. Their time honoured tactic is to keep chipping away and to increase both the marginalisation and apathy of the general population from participation in the public arena. And every time they sell just one forest they win and we lose.
It's in the nature of Transition Initiatives to be concerned and active in localisation, with food production, transport, etc. This governmental proposal is as much a direct threat to Hertford's open spaces and woodlands as any other and even if they were not we have a duty as activists to repel this no matter where the attacks might come. I suggest we might contact other interested parties such as -
Hertfordshire Climate Change Partnership at:
http://www.hertslink.org/hertfordshireforward/15communitystrategy/1...
also there are a stack of useful contacts via the Hertfordshire Environmental Forum – here;
http://www.hef.org.uk/contacts/nature.htm
Just to make sure none of our members miss this might we also email the petition details direct to all our members?
