Not sure how related to TH this is but I'm pretty sure it fits in somewhere. I'm pretty scared to be living in this world at the moment let alone this country. What with the threat of our woodlands being taken from us the EU want to take our freedom of choice over health care. All the more reason to grow local food for better health.
Here's the link if you're interested. There is a link to sign a petition for this as well as to save our woodlands. If anyone wants to pass them on to family and friends please do.

here are the two links:

The one above is a video but there is a link for a petition too.

great post - I missed this move by government, thanks for the info and links Wenderlynne . . if there's one single thing that all our 84 members can do together it will be to support those two protest movements, apathy and an unwillingness to step forward doesn't cut it when issues such as these are at stake . . and this is an area all transition initiatives should come up to the mark on - have you posted this on Transition Culture? 4th November mail from RH fits with this I believe.
Hi Wenderlynn, I'm Ray. It looks as if you did more with TH while I was away at 1/2 term than I do in a month! Great! I'm interested to see you feel threatened by the EU. I've been an active member of UKIP for a while, but am no longer active because most members are such climate deniers, and because the EU is pushing the UK at least to do some things right e.g. reduce landfill. Don't believe carbon cap and trading will be any use.
I agree Don, Transition groups across the country and others alike, and perhaps internationally, need to tackle these sort of issues together. What makes me mad is that the government has said "we'll sell the woodlands off to the highest bidder...blah blah blah...." .It's not theirs to sell. The woodlands belong to the people in fact none of it belongs to anyone, nature gives up freely what she can as long as we are willing to give something back. Before the age of the Victorian and hawthorn hedges the land 'did' belong to the people. Suddenly what was once a common ground became some mightier than thou's back garden and if you were hunting for rabbit or pheasant you were considered a poacher, never mind that you had always done it before someone put their claim to it. As for the threat of imprisoning herbalists or anyone in that kind of category or way of life.... it's barmy. I wonder why The Terminator film springs to mind... Sorry I'll get off my box now. :-)

Ray who and what is/are the UKIP? As for how busy I've been, I guess that's what happens when you lose your job and your kids are no longer around to pester you.......is that called Freedom or bad luck.......? :-)
Sorry that last reply was from me not Iain. I keep getting logged into Iain's account from our computer.
Hey Pan Person it's both freedom and good luck because you is now in never never land . . and you can fly . . . .

Governments have been trying to hawk our forests and open spaces to business since the 1970's, so far we've usually, but unfortunately not always, stopped them. Their time honoured tactic is to keep chipping away and to increase both the marginalisation and apathy of the general population from participation in the public arena. And every time they sell just one forest they win and we lose.

It's in the nature of Transition Initiatives to be concerned and active in localisation, with food production, transport, etc. This governmental proposal is as much a direct threat to Hertford's open spaces and woodlands as any other and even if they were not we have a duty as activists to repel this no matter where the attacks might come. I suggest we might contact other interested parties such as -
Hertfordshire Climate Change Partnership at:

http://www.hertslink.org/hertfordshireforward/15communitystrategy/1...

also there are a stack of useful contacts via the Hertfordshire Environmental Forum – here;

Just to make sure none of our members miss this might we also email the petition details direct to all our members?

I'll look into the emailing the link (s) to all members don. I realise I can get rather too enthusiastic sometimes and often go off on one before I put my brain in gear but my passion and caring for this earth and what she gives us would not be any less were I not so 'firey'. :-)
