Rather old news now, but the County has decided to construct an energy-from-waste plant at New Barnfield, Hatfield. Not surprising, as they have to meet targets on reduction of landfill. It was clear they would because their Link magazine described how it works even during the public consultation period!
Opposing it was worthwhile as a learning experience.

Permalink Reply by Alastair Marsh on September 1, 2011 at 18:15 Hi everyone,
Got back from holiday today to find a letter from the council about "Independent Examination of Hertfordshire Waste Core Strategy and Development Policies Document", inviting me to a "pre-hearing meeting" on 29 September 2011.
Apparently, this is from me submitting a response during the consultation period they had about waste core strategy in November/December 2010 (as far as I'm aware, this was the incinerator consultation). Online information and updates about the "Waste Core Strategy Examination" is here: http://www.hertsdirect.org/services/envplan/plan/hccdevplan/wastepl...
Has anyone else got letters about this too?
If so, what does this all mean? I find the jargon confusing, but I don't want to miss the chance to have an input on what the waste strategy will be for future years.
Any help or explanation would very much appreciated,
Alastair

The heavy metals, particulates and toxic gases generated by this process are a public health risk, quite aside from the terrifying impact they will have on our climate. The only solution to the waste problem is encompassed in that simple tripartite motto; reduce, reuse, recycle. We should not be turning to burning as an alternative.
