Hi Everyone,
I'm hoping you can help. I would like to try and compile a list of all places in Hertford where batteries can be taken for recycling so that we can have a list on this site for reference for visitors here.If you can help that would be great.

Also would really like Transition Hertford to help promote and support the community initiative to recycle batteries (CoBRA) and would gladly discuss what its all about with you. Or you could check out the CoBRA website for further details

At the moment the UK only recycles 3% of batteries used which is well below E.U. directives and means a lot of poisonous substances  going to landfill andpotentially leaking into our soil, water systems and affecting us and wildlife. Please help out on this if you are able.Thank you

So far Kate and Jane have agreed to join in with this scheme. Is there anyone out there with a local shop, school, church, workplace, interest group that could register for battery box. Its a small amount of effort and a way for people to get to hear about the transition movement and what we are up to.
not a direct reply to yr original query but in like vein, some American friends sent me this link to an American initiative by SanFran (who else :-) It might be a possible consideration for an initiative proposed by HTT to Hertfordshire Couinty Council for something similar for use by their staff but also available to the public?

Hi Don

Not really quite sure which bit of the site you meant. There is a battery recycling box placed at Wallfields (East Herts District Council) which I am responsible for taking to tip when full. I need to check where it is cos I couldnt see it last time I was there. It may be in a place just for staff- I'll check.
The CoBRA scheme is hoping to widen out to low energy bulb recycling soon so that will be interesting (and useful)
